Old Krate

I'm interested in the different ways the same subject can be represented. Apply the Big Bang Theory. This watercolour sketch is an interesting case study. Perhaps because the subject has limited appeal it will be ignored on the DPs. From my point of view it is something that I think is worthy of a little attention by anyone interested in watercolour painting. It is actually quite difficult to paint effectively in this style and it is a rather sophisticated handling of the medium. Its loose without being vague or outright crappy.

When I first see the work it looks like another great watercolor of another great subject. Then when I enlarge it I'm blow away at the looseness of the strokes. Its wonderful - like that favorite recipe your grandmother can't write down because she instinctivly knows to put a pinch of the or a dash of that...and no one's can make it the way she does..

Good handling of the values Ron. Like the front fenders.. your lightest value then working into the background.. darkest. Drawing is loose yet in keeping with reality (what is reality?). Yes .. this is a worthy painting. very worthy!

Yes,I know what you mean- quite often I feel cooked.

Its funny business this loose/tight dichotomy thing. I wish I could translate the way I think I can draw into my paintings. But when I do I'm not sure how it will be received.

Sorry, Cara, the above comment didn't have the proper salutation. Thanks.

Thanks, W.K. I am presently lost in the watercolour world, can't make heads or tails of the whole thing.

Thats not true. There are some people in the world with discerning taste and educated sensibilities, see above.
