There are a coupla things that happen...I think that watercolours take quite a while to dry and they don't reach their best look for awhile, mine seem to need at least a couple of weeks. Now that may not be true but thats how it seems to me. I need time to forget what I didn't like and by the time I pull them out of the pile I can usually live with them. I like them better. I'm pretty impressed with myself and at the same time totally disappointed. I don't understand watercolour trends and mine are at odds with contemporary watercolour notions of whats desirable. Thats where the trouble starts because although I wanted to paint in my own style, simpler cliche ridden g-bage with no creative spark gets the raves. So I am tempted to chuck my ideas and paint like everyone else, which I can do. When I look at my own paintings pulled out of wherever I get my cofidence back, if only temporarily. I am surrounded by my own paintings as my house is my own gallery. Also I have sold a lot of my best paintings but I have pictures of them. I have also kept some of my favourites.Ron Morrisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10787006578615434837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27038779.post-57714384908770329612008-03-14T23:41:00.000-07:002008-03-14T23:41:00.000-07:00Hey Ron. Looks like they were all guarding the property, but stayed so long they rusted and fell apart.Michellehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07620567824053048243noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27038779.post-90387649672431310122008-03-14T21:10:00.000-07:002008-03-14T21:10:00.000-07:00Cool. I think I'll stick to Clive's idea...mediocrity all the way!
I find that looking at my own paintings is like proofing something that I have written...I don't see the words, because they are already in my head...I don't see the image, because it is already in my head...and time can definitely help with that...gives the image in my head time to fade, so I can actually see what I've painted.........does that make sense? lol No matter...I love to paint!
And I'm glad to hear a smattering of optimism from you these days...lol...it gives me hope!Abouthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08563426188867667815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27038779.post-22289955583972590472008-03-14T17:36:00.000-07:002008-03-14T17:36:00.000-07:00WOW...you've got the spring cleaning bug...lucky f...WOW...you've got the spring cleaning bug...lucky for us! When you look at an old painting, do you see the mistakes...things you'd do differently now...or do you see how far you've come, or how your style has changed? Just curious...it's a glass half full sort of thing...I haven't been painting long enough to have too many 'oldtimers', but I wonder how I will view them...Abouthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08563426188867667815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27038779.post-39453559610749170922008-03-14T13:05:00.000-07:002008-03-14T13:05:00.000-07:00Thanks W.K. its fun to dig'em out and see if there...Thanks W.K. its fun to dig'em out and see if there's anything salvagable.Ron Morrisonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10787006578615434837noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-27038779.post-73288411417054891902008-03-14T11:49:00.000-07:002008-03-14T11:49:00.000-07:00Thx for bringing these to light Ron.
