Variations On A Theme

Fun with watercolour. Pick your fave and don't tell me to forget the cars and get to potatoing. Actually tell me any old thing, I need the attention. These to me are exercises in exploration and practicing the craft. Bink to blast.

Never forget the cars in favor of anything! Your a master in this!

If they hound you too much paint em' a car in a patato patch...

I don't really mind, it actually amuses me, I set myself up by posting the tater prints. The fact that I paint cars removes me from any serious consideration as an artist, I've come to accept this.

I appreciate your having said this but the world at large holds a different opinion.(or lack thereof) It annoys me a little but its not the end of the world. If I painted flowers, pretty faces, or tepid vacuous landscapes or every rock on a beach my prospects might be brighter. Thirty years tells the tale. I painted what I wanted to paint, I did it the way I hoped I could and I'm a fair hand with a brush in a difficult medium.

third and last one for me.. I like the red dominance of the third and the composition. all are good and have enough variation to be completely different unless you put them side by side. You did a great study of color and arrangement... excellent mr.

Thanks, W.K., it was fun to visit Nick and the international thing was comical.

I love the one at the top the most. Much better than a tepid vacuous landscape or wimpo flowers, (which incidently is all I can manage to paint). I'm pulled in by the lavender car (hell lavender fields on canvas don't even have a scent, so what good are they?:) which draws my eye up to the house, which leads me to the seagull. The bird continues to pull my eye to the watertower, where I invariably am drawn back to the lavender car.
You're an amazing artist. Really.

Thanks P.D., you've made my Saturday.

Hmmm...Can't pick between between 5 or 6...I love the highlights on the water tower in 5, but I love the browns in 6.
I understand a bit of what you mean in your discussion with Cara--sequential art has ancient origins linked with written language, but there are many people (maybe mostly the smaller towns like my hometown) who find comics to be childish, while contrarily thinking they badly influence kids.

Thanks Grimm, I am an admirer of authentic art even if it is not as polished as derivative art usually is. By this I mean art that is your own not copied from someone else.

I think I like the 5th one down with the little signs (no peddlers, etc). Looks like you really had fun doing that one. And art should be fun, right?

Ron Morrison said...

Yes it should, B.J., thanks.

First of all..I can't believe how many paintings you can pull off..and second, how GOOD they all are, so thirdly, sorry...can't pick a fave; like em all!!

Ron Morrison said...

Thanks Holly, I'm glad you like them all.

This is too much work. It's too hard. But if I had to live with one, I'd take the top one. Now that we've taken care of business, let's see some REAL art. Where are your two pears on a paper bag? Let's see you do one. hughggg, gaspppppp...tttt

Ron Morrison said...

Oh behave! How about teacups? Cows? Koi?

naquaiya said...

I don't wanna behave, raaaaaa, I want 2 pears on a paper bag, then we can see if you can really paint!

This challenge will not come to "fruit"ion.

I like the 2nd 3rd and last one best.
hmmm, can I say best if I can't pick one? The last one is really different though. Seems like the building is rusting too...

Thanks N.N., sounds fine to me.

Thanks everybody for the fab comments!

Hard choice. I think the second to last is my fav. I do like the ominous sky on the 3rd (?) from the top, though. Maybe "Christine" lurks in there somewhere.

I reeelly enjoy the input of other painters who paint differently than I do. Its so much fun to get the feedback. When there are different faves that I can relate to the commenting artist's own work it gives me a degree of reassurance that I rarely find elsewhere. Thanks, Michelle.

Second from the top, love it. It may just be perfect.

Thanks Tom, that one is four feet wide.
