From The Vault (I Got A New Scanner)
The "Vault" is a cardboard box. In this box have negatives from the seventies of pictures I took of junkyards. Some of the negatives are of my early paintings. I have been worried that the negs were wrecked. I recently got a scanner and put the images in my library. Most everything was in good shape. I am going to burn them on discs and then they will be safe.
Okay, so I found some things that I thought might be fun to show. These are paintings that I did around 1977. The negs of the paintings were damaged a little, but I thought that created an interesting effect.

Hey Ron, the old stuff is also very very nice. I like the muted earthy colour as much as the stronger new stuff. I've been trying to save old slides with my new scanner too; I find that a lot of colour has been lost but some of it can be put back in digitally. Nothing is safe though. A nuclear strike on Comox will probably vapourise your discs and mine. Heads up, and looking forward to more old and new.
(for some weird reason the layout of your blog has gone a bit funny; pictures infringing on profile etc. Also, there is some Occult heading to your post with something about 'Lord of The Arts' and 'Ron is Invisible'. Is that some strange Wet Canvas symbolism? Keep your clothes on and don't go in too deep, Ron; keep in touch with the outside world...)
Very very nice - I love the old stuff...that's how I ended up married again - Ha!
Thanks Clive, vapourizing I can accept, but was glad most of my negs from the seventies were just fine. Actually the worst ones were of my paintings- could there be a message?
Clive, I lifted the stuff straight from the Can and thought it was fun to have the bigger images.
Thanks Cara, dug them out of the files...
FANTABULOUS!!!!!
Thanks M., these are the characters that I started with.
hehe...i love Clive's remark about the occult. maybe he thought you'd gone over to the darkside?
i really really like these oldies. they look very vintage with the palette you were using at the time. I'm curious...when did you switch to the more brilliant colors and why? enquiring minds would love to know.
Hi Billie, I went to the brighter colours in response to a local trend towards bright and in response to insipid watercolour. That would be about five years ago. my palette is more subdued lately. My colourful paintings are way more popular. Strange thing, my palette never changed, just the colours that I selected from that palette. A couple of posts back the colours are fairly vintage. The big bright one is four years old.
Ah those olden goldies. As they say in the song Ron..."ain't nothin' like the real thing baby!"
Sometimes looking back helps to see how far we've come eh.
Jeffrey
Thanks Jeffrey, yes but sometimes I wonder...
Great photos!
Love the harp appearance of the grille in the last one.
Thanks Babs, its a Hudson Terraplane.
Ron, I like the older work too!! It does look a little different from today's work...OK a lot different. Glad you're saving things from back then before they're ruined.
Thanks Joan, I'm glad too.
Hi Ron,
Nice to see some of your early work. 1977 eh? Wow. The bottom painting is my fave. It looks great.
Hi Michelle, they are fun to find, the last one I still have.
