I started painting with watercolours in 1976 with a set of pans that I had left over from high school. I've always loved the shapes and colours of old vehicles as they settle in for the long rust. I especially enjoy creating scenes using characters I have collected over the years. These paintings are from my imagination. Check out the sales blog under "Links and Friends".

Kewl! I like the old shacks you put in your paintings. The cars look like old pals.
What's this big picture of which you write?
Hi Michelle, if you go back in the posts you will find Springhill Junction. That is the final destination. Since I make these things up, they evolve, usually the big paintings from smaller ones. They are all (the paintings) gatherings of the individuals that I call the character studies. Or a variation on this procedure.
Hi Ron - again you have framed the cars with well placed warms and cools... In some places you get lost edges and others contrasting edges. Effective painting includes these elements and many times in my case it fails or succeeds unconsciously. Success here - house, cars and prairie.
Thanks,W.K.,its fun to lose the edges and then get them back-but this smudge the edges thing can get gimmicky. Hard edges are the result of lazy painting, didn't the Sarge himself say that? Now every Tom, Dick and Zing Ming are losing the edges and it looks to me like we are getting a bunch of pot boiling copycats-The new school of "Smudgers". Don't want to be left out better get to smudging.
is losing the edges..
Ah, yes. I remember Springhill Junction. Very nice.
Hi, Michele, the purpose of my blog is to organize my work and to present it. I wanted to show how I got the com"pile"ation pieces. And maybe to talk about watercolour a little bit.
Can I share something weird with you? I spend about as much time looking at your roofs as I do your cars. I know, I know - I'm strange. I like this pic very much - kind of reminds me of me and my guy..or maybe its just the title...
Thanks, Cara, its really about colours and shapes-I look at the roofs and things too.
Great title, great painting as usual. Your site is always a treasure of fun!
Thanks, Michele, its supposed to be fun. Well done fun,but sometimes its half-baked.
Smudge a tastey treat.. just smoke and fudge for me. hmm I like that... anyway you are on to something... whole schools and careers can crop up around a technique or compositional bias. No problem there... let them have their time in the sun - then later see the fingernail marks when it's over and they need to teach an old pony a new trick.
Ahmen Brother Moore!
Beautiful clouds Ron. And effects of the sun barely burning the clouds off to give that mild shine to windshield. Love that old house.
Thanks, Kee, I love how you interpret the atmospheric effects.
