Jackson's Barn Fresh

This bit of fun is a sketch for a commission I did. I like the cartoonish quality of the thing. I would have liked to have done cartoons in the old days. Bink for enlightenment.

The cars look like they skidded to a stop right there, like they said "fuck it all, we're here for the beer...or gasoline..."
If you made cartoons, and they weren't anime, I'd probably have watched them.

So much personality. Your cars speak to me. Love them. Great colors.

Thanks, Grimm, I compose these things based on shapes and balance (there was more to this sketch but I cropped it, giving it a truncated look). However I want them (paintings to be on the verge of coming apart or at least at the limits of compositional stability. I think this gives them a unique dynamic. They are a bit goofy and I want them to be identifiably mine. Piles of shapes and colours barely hanging together, they really aren't car paintings-the cars are just an excuse to play with those elements. Not always....When you tell me how they look, it brings me back to what other people see and of course then I see that, sometimes for the first time. It actually quite fun because sometimes I concoct a little story to go with a certain painting but the viewers story is usually way more entertaining.

Did you invent the building behind the cars? Or get it from a photo? Interesting architecture.

I agree with brothergrimm about the composition.
