Plymouth Among the Rocks and Grass

Allrighty then, I redid it with a rock under it. I like this style.

This forlorn specimen is sitting in the yard of a homestead that has been abandoned since 1966. We have Scotch broom everywhere now and it grew out from underneath this wreck. And moss is actually growing on the trunk and hood. Blow it up.

I like the moss on the hood and trunk. Poor, abandoned car. He needs a good home in your garage along with the others. :-)

Oh that IS good...the moss is an excellent touch! I'm starting to notice things in paintings that I never used to notice...and obviously don't utilize in my own...like the one bright window in the house...and the blue roof on the back of the house...that lead the eye around. Must try to remember that sort of thing...

I thought that was moss.
I can't believe that some jackass had the idea to put grass on the car instead of tires!

Thanks Michelle, this chap is a little forlorn isn't he. No more room in the garage.

Thanks Tracy, I do dopey stuff in my paintings all the time and I got called on it in an English site by someone who figured my backgrounds were at odds with my subject because they weren't bleak and I had colour everywhere or some such looniness and that the mood wasn't bleak enough..blah blah blah. For me its fun, I am not a "proper" composer of such things, I do what I want, like it or don't...

Thanks Grimm, somebody call, I guess that jackass would be me...guilty as charged.

Ah looniness...one of my favorite things. The destitute cars, and the riot of color are what make your paintings so appealing. Some people have no sense of humor...You just keep right on breakin' those rules!!

Thanks Tracy, also sometimes they aren't very pretty because thats the way they come out and I get the "I Wanna Cry" reaction (See W/C today) but at least I get a reaction, I guess.

Interesting to see this wreck has become environmentally green. It is finally giving back that which it expended in the form of fern goo millennia ago. Nice job capturing the cloudy day mood.

Thanks W.K., just going for the grit.

I love the grasses that seem to be cradling the car!!! It needs some TLC from Mother Nature. Wonderful colors in these.

Thanks Joan, these are a little closer to what its really like around here with salt and rain.

They both look good, but I think I like the second one better. Maybe it's the angle of the car, the rock or that it's more rusty. I like the sky in the bottom one best, though.

Thanks Michelle, I have always liked this style, I thought it would suit my subject matter. Sort of an alternative to tighter commish work. I seemed to have abandoned the style I worked hard to develop as being unsaleable or having limited sales.

I like the top one most today. The car is nestled in there nicely.

Oh yeah...this is cool. It has that nice spontaneous feel to it...great color as always...and I like the contrast of the smooth rock and the spikey grass. Nice.

Thanks N.N., I had to paint the other one first to get to the second one.

Thanks Tracy, I thought of the rock, Plymouth Rock, when I posted the first painting so I had to put a rock in.

Ron, I like the second one best. The rock adds something.
When I saw the title I thought you could use the tag Plymouth Rock on it and get an audience who'd never see it otherwise!
As for the commentary on your paintings not having 'proper' integration between subject and background, it doesn't apply to your paintings because they are beautifully constructed and it's obvious that they are a unique vision. Also, the color is harmonious and wonderful. They ROCK!
