I started painting with watercolours in 1976 with a set of pans that I had left over from high school. I've always loved the shapes and colours of old vehicles as they settle in for the long rust. Hee... seriously.. good duo you posted - nice counterpoint.. dynamic (even). Lots of color mixed into your darks that keep them vibrant and alive. Like 2 brothers one a little shadier than the other.. tough guys yeah!

It was a good discussion--I must be missing my college days that I didn't do online.
I didn't mean to get so long-winded, but I do that. I do agree with you that som higher quality papers are better towork with, I just like the thought that one can theoretically create art with any surface, one just has to be a bit resourceful. I think very one of you guys whose blogs I frequent could paint on a piece of toast and make it look good. Part of that, as w.k. stated, has to do with the time & experience put into it.
But in the end, if you got something to paint on that in turn works well with you, there's no reason not to stick with it.
oh, I got longwinded again...
You know, I'm working through a bunch of 11x14 canvases for my schoolwork, I think I'm just getting bored with the same old size and texture. ah, well, I'll be done for summer in a coupl weeks, then I can paint on whatever I want.

I used tile and acrylics and it produces far less mud and the effects and vivid colours are far better than board or canvass.

Have you tried any of the synthetic papers? I don't do watercolour so I'm like a first-grader in the info department.
Thanks, Michele, I like gritty and down and dirty cuz in real life when these cars settle in they are raw and elemental.
There is only on type of paper that I use and that is Arches 140 medium. There are other quality papers with different characteristics but they are all expensive.
My grandmother had a car just like this one only hers was a terrible shade of orange..can you imagine?

Hi Holly, the anthropomorphism is still fun after thirty years of painting these silly things.
The good twin and the evil twin? I like the darker one. Guess it looks more dangerous. :)
Thanks, Michelle, its funny but some of the gritty paintings that I liked best were the least popular on the DPs. And some of the most fun comment days like today came from posts that were all time stinkers in the ratings. By the way give us the low down on the paper you use.
